Adeyanju Urges Tinubu to Review Abuja Land Allocations

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently review land allocations and developments in designated green areas, parks, gardens, drainage corridors, and waterways in Abuja. This appeal follows significant flooding in areas such as Maitama Extension, which has submerged residential properties, including those of Kano State Deputy Governor Murtala Garo and former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase.

Residents attribute the flooding to the alleged covering of a major canal, previously a natural stormwater route, to facilitate construction, with claims that around 14 duplexes were built on what was once a green area. Adeyanju argues that the flooding cannot be solely blamed on heavy rainfall, as areas previously considered safe are now affected.

He emphasizes that Abuja's Master Plan, designed for environmental preservation and flood control, is under threat due to developments initiated during Nyesom Wike's administration. Adeyanju cites various locations at risk and stresses the urgency for intervention by President Tinubu to prevent worsening conditions.
