Wellington Clinics Denies Organ Trafficking Allegations

Wellington Clinics, located in Abuja, has publicly denied any involvement in alleged organ trafficking linked to a kidney transplant conducted on April 24, 2026. The hospital stated it neither participated in nor benefited from any financial arrangements involving the donor, Samuel Ezekiel, who was reportedly deceived into donating a kidney for $1,250 (approximately N1.7 million).

The Nigeria Police Force is investigating an alleged organ-harvesting syndicate, having arrested four suspects, including two doctors associated with Wellington Clinics. The hospital clarified that the donor was admitted under the name Abubakar Hassan and that the transplant procedure was carried out by a specialist team led by Dr. Benjamin Oyimeh, a Senior Consultant Nephrologist.

Wellington Clinics emphasized that it only provided the operating theatre and environment under a rental agreement and that the specialist team was responsible for all clinical and ethical matters. The hospital confirmed that neither the donor nor the recipient suffered any fatal consequences from the operation.
