Lagos Reviews Mainland Hospital's Ebola Readiness

The Lagos State Government has conducted a strategic assessment of the Infectious Disease Hospital, also known as Mainland Hospital, located in Yaba, to ensure readiness for any potential outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). This assessment was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, via his X handle.

The review was prompted by the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which has seen over 5,600 confirmed cases and more than 2,700 deaths since it was declared on May 15, 2026. During the assessment, Abayomi, accompanied by the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Adejumo, inspected critical infrastructure, diagnostic capabilities, and clinical support systems.

They focused on the Emergency Operations Centre, laboratory equipment, oxygen supply, triage and isolation areas, and identified immediate maintenance needs to uphold biosafety and patient care standards. Abayomi reaffirmed the Ministry of Health's commitment to fortifying Lagos State's health security architecture.
