Abuja-Kaduna Train Derails, Passengers Injured, No Fatalities

On Monday morning at approximately 10:30 AM, a train incident occurred near Asham, involving the rear locomotive making contact with the rear of the next passenger coach. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), led by Managing Director Kayode Opeifa, confirmed that passengers sustained injuries, which were promptly attended to at a nearby medical facility.

Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded. The NRC activated its emergency response protocol and mobilized a relevant technical team to the site for a thorough investigation.

Eyewitness accounts described a loud bang that caused the train to jolt, resulting in passengers being thrown across the coach and sustaining severe injuries. The train was delayed by 30 minutes but resumed service, arriving at Idu Station at 10:39 AM, 38 minutes behind schedule.

The NRC assured the public that safety remains its top priority and that necessary measures will be taken to address the situation.
