Lawyer Petitions IGP Over Political Killings in Osun

Pelumi Olajengbesi, an Abuja-based lawyer, has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Tund Disu, concerning a series of reported political killings in Osun State. In his petition delivered on Thursday at the police headquarters in Abuja, Olajengbesi expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence, which he claims poses a significant threat to public safety and the credibility of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for August 15.

He highlighted a disturbing pattern of election-related violence that has resulted in the loss of innocent lives, severe injuries to citizens, and widespread fear across various communities in Osun State. The petition calls for the immediate redeployment of police personnel to the state, a comprehensive investigation into all incidents of political violence, and the identification and prosecution of individuals involved in such acts, regardless of their political affiliations.

Olajengbesi emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property, maintain public order, and ensure that every citizen enjoys equal protection under the law.
