Foundation Demands Justice for 11 Women Killed in Adamawa

Bedada Care Foundation, a non-governmental organization focused on women's rights and justice, has urged the prosecution of soldiers allegedly responsible for the killing of 11 unarmed women during a protest in Lamurde local government area of Adamawa State. This incident occurred eight months prior when the women gathered peacefully to demand the deployment of soldiers for community protection against communal attacks.

They were reportedly shot by soldiers from the 23rd Brigade Yola while carrying leaves and singing peaceful songs. At a press conference in Yola, Mrs. Elizabeth Jatau, representing the foundation, called for a prompt, independent, and transparent prosecution of the soldiers involved.

The foundation also requested immediate medical assistance for the surviving victims and livelihood restitution for those unable to work due to injuries. Although the Adamawa State government has intervened by covering medical expenses for some victims, much of the support has come from private individuals.

Jatau commended the state government for its efforts to stabilize the situation through community engagement.
