Senate Orders Probe into Adamawa Killings, Urges Aid

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate resolved to investigate the recent violent attacks in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, which have resulted in numerous fatalities. The upper chamber called for immediate provision of relief materials for displaced residents affected by the attacks, which targeted communities including Kwa, Gyakan, Rigang, Waduku, and Tchobo.

The motion was sponsored by Bino Yaro, representing Adamawa South, who highlighted the scale of destruction and human suffering in the area. Yaro expressed concern that these attacks occurred despite the imposition of a dusk-to-dawn curfew and the deployment of security personnel.

Amo Yohanna, representing Adamawa North, described the ongoing crisis as tragic and called for stronger collaboration between the National Assembly and the Adamawa State government to sustain peace-building efforts. The Senate urged security agencies to intensify operations in the area and mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons.

The session concluded with a minute of silence to honor the lives lost in the attacks.
