Senate Probes Plateau Killings, Sends Delegation to Communities

The Nigerian Senate has initiated a probe into the recent killings in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, where at least 28 individuals have been reported killed. This decision was made during a session on Tuesday, where the Senate urged Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu to commence a comprehensive investigation into the incidents.

A delegation led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio will visit the affected communities to express condolences. The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Senator Dachung Mwadkon from Plateau Central, who raised concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Kanam and Jos North Local Government Areas.

The debate highlighted the complex nature of the crisis, which has economic, ethnic, and religious dimensions, and emphasized the need for the Senate leadership to expedite proposals for a national security summit to produce practical solutions to the growing security challenges in the country.
