Adamawa Labour Party Faces Leadership Crisis Over Suspension

The Labour Party (LP) in Adamawa State is experiencing a significant leadership crisis following the suspension of its chairman, Jonah Theman Kalpenge, reported on Wednesday, August 5. On Thursday, executives opposing the suspension rejected it, labeling it unconstitutional and ineffective.

At a meeting in Yola, party leaders loyal to Kalpenge described the suspension as “drama and child’s play,” asserting that it violated the party’s constitution. They resolved to establish a five-member disciplinary committee, chaired by Dauda Peter, to investigate the actions of members involved in the meeting that led to the suspension.

The committee includes Yahuza Kabiru, Hauwa Musa, Sarah Sunday, and Moses Gaji. It has been directed to summon affected members—Kamalludeen Jibrilla Aliyu, Suleiman Abdulkareem, Andrew Adamu, Abubakar Aliyu, and Tufanus Daniel—to appear before it at the party’s state secretariat in Yola on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

This internal turmoil reflects ongoing divisions within the party, reminiscent of the instability faced during the 2023 general election.
