ADC Accuses APC-Led Senate of Delaying Electoral Reforms Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democrat Congress (ADC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Senate in Nigeria of stalling important electoral reforms necessary for the 2027 elections. The ADC's Public Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, issued a statement expressing concerns over the delays in passing the Electoral Bill for 2025, cautioning against weakening key reforms such as electronic voter accreditation and result transmission.

The ADC highlighted the need for proper compliance with eligibility requirements and clear guidelines to prevent electoral rigging. The party emphasized the importance of timely passage of the bill to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The ADC called on the National Assembly to act swiftly to avoid risks to the 2027 general elections and urged civil society organizations, international partners, and political parties to support democratic governance. The Senate recently inaugurated a committee to review and harmonize proposals to amend the Electoral Act.
