African Democratic Congress Raises Concerns Over Electoral Amendment Bill in Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a warning regarding perceived flaws in the Electoral Amendment Bill, expressing reservations about certain provisions that may undermine the transparency of electoral processes in Nigeria. The party initially welcomed reports suggesting the Senate had bolstered safeguards for electronic transmission of election results.

However, upon closer scrutiny, the ADC found controversial clauses in the bill that grant discretionary powers, potentially weakening the assurance of real-time electronic transmission and creating opportunities for manipulation. The ADC's statement, delivered by its National Public Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi in Abuja, highlighted the need to protect the integrity of the electoral system.
