ADC Rejects State Police Bill Over Procedural Violations

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally challenged the House of Representatives' recent passage of a proposed constitutional amendment aimed at establishing state police. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, claims that the legislative process was marred by serious procedural violations, including the acceptance of votes submitted via WhatsApp by lawmakers not physically present during the voting.

The ADC argues that this undermines the constitutional requirements for amending legislation. The party supports the establishment of state police as a necessary response to Nigeria's security challenges but insists that any constitutional reform must follow strict legal procedures.

The ADC also criticized the handling of the legislation, alleging insufficient opportunity for detailed scrutiny and inadequate public consultation regarding the proposed changes. The party emphasized that constitutional amendments require openness and robust debate, which they believe were lacking in this instance.
