ADC Criticizes Tinubu's Rushed State Police Proposal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) expressed support for the creation of state police but criticized President Bola Tinubu's proposal as rushed and inadequate. In a statement issued on Friday, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party's spokesperson, stated that while the ADC supports state police, it cannot succeed without institutional safeguards to ensure professionalism and accountability.

The ADC argued that the current efforts by the federal government are a hurried response to Nigeria's worsening security crisis rather than a carefully planned constitutional reform. The party noted that the idea of state police is not new and should not be portrayed as a novel initiative by the Tinubu administration.

The ADC raised concerns about the lack of public consultation and the potential for political interference in state police operations. They emphasized that the establishment of state police should not replace necessary reforms in the federal police force, which continues to play a crucial role in national security.
