Court Sets Date for ADC Leadership Dispute Hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, has scheduled a hearing for June 3 regarding a suit filed by Nafiu Bala against David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, who are implicated in a leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Bala seeks to restrain Mark, the national chairman, and Aregbesola, a member of the interim national working committee, from acting as party leaders, claiming they breached the party's constitution and the Electoral Act.

This case follows a Supreme Court ruling on April 30 that set aside a previous order maintaining the status quo in the leadership dispute. The court had directed the ADC to return to the Federal High Court for an expedited hearing.

The matter was previously adjourned indefinitely by Justice Emeka Nwite, who had been handling the case before it was reassigned to Justice Lifu. The ADC's leadership crisis has implications for the party's future, especially with the upcoming 2023 presidential elections.
