Court Adjourns Nafiu Bala's Suit Against David Mark

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the suit filed by Nafiu Bala against David Mark, the leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), until June 8. Justice Peter Lifu presided over the case, which was adjourned due to the absence of counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is sought to be joined in the suit.

Robert Emukpoeruo, SAN, representing Bala, requested the adjournment to allow the parties to serve notice to INEC. Shaibu Aruwa, SAN, representing ADC, highlighted the historical context of the suit and the need for fair hearing.

The court noted that the previous trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, had faced allegations of frustrating the case's progress. Justice Lifu emphasized the need for expediency, directing that the parties seeking to join the suit must be served within 24 hours.

The next hearing is set for June 8, with an order for accelerated proceedings.
