ADC Chairmen Sue NWC Over Primary Election Dispute

A crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has escalated as 36 state chairmen have taken legal action against the National Working Committee (NWC), which is led by former Senate President David Mark. The plaintiffs allege that the NWC has violated the party's constitution by establishing a committee to conduct state primary elections scheduled for April.

They argue that the organization of these elections falls exclusively within the powers of the state executive committee as outlined in the party's constitution. The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja by Norma Obinna and six other chairmen, seeks an order to restrain the NWC from proceeding with the primaries and requests a perpetual interlocutory injunction to prevent the conduct of elections pending the case's determination.

The plaintiffs question the legality of the NWC's appointment of a congress committee outside the party's framework and assert that the tenure of the current state executive committee remains valid until a legitimate state congress is conducted.
