Court Halts ADC Congresses in Adamawa Amid Legal Dispute

The High Court in Adamawa State has issued an order suspending the planned congresses of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the ward and local government levels. This decision follows a directive from Justice AHM Isah of High Court No. 6 in Yola, which will remain in effect until the court determines a substantive suit regarding the legitimacy of the congress arrangements.

The case, instituted by the state chairman of the ADC, Yohanna Shehu, is set for hearing on April 15. Shehu's protest centers on allegations of exclusivity and a lack of transparency in the congress planning process, which he claims contradicts democratic principles.

The congress organization has been coordinated by a state transition committee led by Sadiq Dasin, which has faced strong opposition from stakeholders within the party. Shehu insists that the committee's process lacks inclusivity and transparency, raising concerns about the party's internal electoral process in the state pending the outcome of the scheduled court hearing next Wednesday.
