IPAC Criticizes INEC Over ADC Leadership Crisis

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) expressed concerns regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) management of the leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a statement issued in Abuja, IPAC urged INEC to exercise caution in resolving intra-party disputes, emphasizing that missteps could undermine public confidence in Nigeria's electoral system.

The council highlighted the ongoing tensions within the ADC, where rival factions claim legitimacy. IPAC also criticized a proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise, citing risks of voter disenfranchisement and system strain on political parties.

Egbeola Martin, IPAC's national public secretary, acknowledged the necessity for voter registration updates but warned that the timing of the proposed exercise could overwhelm the electoral environment. Additionally, IPAC condemned the violence in Plateau State, describing it as a grave threat to national unity and security, and called for urgent action from the federal government and security agencies to restore peace.
