ADC Seeks INEC Clarification on Voter Revalidation Plan

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement on Wednesday demanding clarification from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about a reported plan for a nationwide voter revalidation exercise. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's National Publicity Secretary, expressed concerns that such a move could disrupt the electoral process just months before the general elections.

The ADC received a leaked memo indicating that INEC might require already registered voters to revalidate their registration details. Abdullahi called for INEC to confirm the authenticity of the memo and outrightly rejected the plan, warning that it could discourage citizen participation in the democratic process.

He emphasized that asking millions of Nigerians to repeat the voter registration process so close to elections could lead to voter apathy and significantly reduce turnout. The ADC cautioned INEC against actions that could create perceptions of bias towards the ruling party and urged the commission to abandon the alleged plan to ensure transparency and credibility in Nigeria's electoral process.
