ADC Urges INEC to Clarify Voter Revalidation Concerns

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to clarify reports regarding a proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise. In a statement issued on Wednesday, ADC's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed concerns that this alleged plan could disrupt the electoral process, especially with the next general elections approaching.

The party received a leaked memo suggesting that INEC might require already registered voters to revalidate their details. Abdullahi requested immediate confirmation from INEC regarding the authenticity of the memo and the validity of the plan.

He outrightly rejected the proposal, warning that it could discourage voter participation by requiring millions of Nigerians to repeat the registration process close to the elections. The ADC highlighted that such a requirement could exacerbate voter apathy and reduce turnout, further questioning the transparency of INEC's actions.

The party urged INEC to abandon the alleged plan to reassure Nigerians of its commitment to a credible and inclusive electoral process.
