ADC Seeks to Attract Gawuna with Governorship Ticket

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is intensifying efforts to persuade Nasiru Gawuna, the former Deputy Governor of Kano State, to accept its governorship ticket for the 2027 gubernatorial elections. Sources familiar with the developments indicate that influential figures within the ADC are holding consultations with Gawuna's political associates to convince him to join the party.

The ADC is reportedly offering political concessions, including automatic nominations for several seats in the State House of Assembly for Gawuna's loyalists, along with assurances of adequate financial support for his campaign. Prominent politicians, including former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and former Ambassador Faruk Yabo, are leading the efforts to attract Gawuna to the ADC.

Although Gawuna has previously maintained loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the ADC's strategic offers have prompted him to reconsider his position. The ADC has delayed announcing the winner of its Kano governorship primary contest, Ibrahim Khalil, to allow for final negotiations with Gawuna, whose candidacy is viewed as highly competitive.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is pressing for a resolution regarding the party's preferred standard bearer.
