ADC Petitions NJC Against Justice Lifu Over Ruling

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially filed a petition against Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja after the Court of Appeal overturned a prior judgment that mandated the deregistration of the ADC and four other political parties. This announcement was made by the ADC's lawyer, Alex Adum, during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show.

The Court of Appeal's ruling, delivered on Tuesday, nullified the Federal High Court's directive to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the ADC, Accord Party, Action Alliance, Action Peoples Party, and Zenith Labour Party, citing a lack of jurisdiction and incompetence of the original suit. Adum described Justice Lifu's earlier decision as “perverse” and indicative of judicial overreach, emphasizing the need for the National Judicial Council (NJC) to take disciplinary measures against judges who act outside established judicial principles.

The appellate court's decision reinstated the legal status of the ADC and the other parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
