ADC Petitions NJC Against Justice Lifu After Appeal Win

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) against Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja after a controversial judgment that ordered the deregistration of the ADC and four other political parties. This petition comes a day after the Court of Appeal overturned the ruling, deeming the proceedings leading to the judgment as fundamentally flawed.

Alex Adum, counsel for the ADC, confirmed the petition during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, stating that the appellate court's decision reaffirmed constitutional democracy and the rights of political parties in Nigeria. Adum criticized the earlier judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the ADC from its register, arguing it lacked legal foundation.

He emphasized that the appellate court established that the plaintiffs lacked legal standing to seek deregistration. Adum called for a thorough investigation by the NJC into the circumstances surrounding Justice Lifu's judgment, highlighting the importance of judicial accountability.
