ADC Raises Alarm Over Harassment of El-Rufai in Kaduna

The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement on Tuesday expressing alarm over the alleged harassment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Professor Sani Bello, a representative of the ADC, warned that these developments threaten democratic norms and due process.

The ADC condemned what it termed politically motivated actions against El-Rufai, citing a pattern aimed at undermining his political influence. The statement referenced various incidents, including a perceived snub by the ministry and actions taken by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which the ADC claims lack merit.

The ADC highlighted the arrests and detention of El-Rufai's associates, including Bashir Said, Ibrahim Sani, and Jimmi Lawal, describing these actions as intimidation of political opponents. The ADC accused anti-corruption agencies, such as the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, of using harassment tactics against opposition figures.

They called for an end to these actions, urging authorities to respect the rule of law and ensure the release of individuals allegedly detained unlawfully.
