ADC Critiques Tinubu as Nigeria's Poverty Hits 63%

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement on March 13, criticizing President Tinubu's economic policies as Nigeria's poverty rate surged to 63%. The ADC attributed this increase to the removal of fuel subsidies, which they claim has led to a significant rise in transportation costs and overall living expenses for ordinary Nigerians.

The party described the current administration's economic policies as poorly defined neoliberal strategies that have resulted in a 50% increase in poverty following the subsidy removal. They emphasized the severe impact of these policies on the daily lives of millions, particularly through rising food and transport costs.

The ADC's statement followed a policy dialogue held in Abuja, where they noted that the government's justification for subsidy removal lacked consideration for its effects on citizens. They also highlighted a lack of significant improvements in key sectors such as health and education over the past three years, citing independent surveys that reflect widespread public dissatisfaction with the current economic situation.
