ADC Warns Supreme Court Delays Threaten 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concerns regarding the Supreme Court's ability to reserve judgment for up to three months, as stated by veteran journalist Abati. He emphasized that the court has not yet delivered a verdict on the ongoing leadership crisis within the party, which could significantly impact its chances of participating in the 2027 general elections.

Abati warned that continued delays could leave the ADC unable to field candidates. The Supreme Court had previously heard the case on April 22, 2026, with a five-member panel led by Justice Moham Garba, but no date for a ruling has been set.

A request for a swift decision was made in a letter dated April 28, 2026, by lawyers representing a faction linked to former Senate President David Mark. Abati criticized the handling of the case by these lawyers, suggesting mismanagement that has prolonged the court proceedings.
