INEC Warns ADC Against Proceeding with Congresses

Prof. Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), cautioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against continuing with their planned congresses and national convention.

During a press conference, Amupitan highlighted the legal implications of such actions, specifically referencing a previous court ruling concerning Zamfara State that resulted in the invalidation of elections. He warned that if the ADC, led by David Mark, proceeds without adhering to legal protocols, the outcome could mirror past failures, such as in Plateau State, where court orders were not followed.

Amupitan emphasized that INEC does not wish to encounter similar situations again, indicating that any elections conducted under these circumstances could lead to the declaration of the candidate with the second highest votes as the winner, should the elections be deemed invalid.
