Adebayo Advocates for Independence Ideals at Summit

At a high-level stakeholders’ summit held on Tuesday in Osun State, Adewale Adebayo, the former president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), called for Nigeria to reconnect with the foundational principles that shaped its independence. The summit brought together notable groups including Afenifere, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

Adebayo highlighted the importance of governance that prioritizes public good over transactional politics, stressing that the political direction of the nation should reflect the aspirations of its citizens. He noted that military interventions have derailed the political system, which has been largely influenced by military tendencies.

Adebayo emphasized the need to revive a unified national philosophy based on social democracy, ensuring that political aspirations are aligned with a social contract aimed at delivering the greatest good for the greatest number of Nigerians. He concluded by reiterating that politics should serve as a vehicle for advancing the welfare of the Nigerian people rather than personal enrichment.
