Adebutu launches PDP 2027 Ogun guber bid with economic revival pledge

PDP candidate Ladi Adebutu unveiled his campaign blueprint at Abeokuta rally, promising local government autonomy and workers' welfare improvements.
The Peoples Democratic Party officially began its 2027 gubernatorial campaign in Ogun State on Wednesday, with candidate Ladi Adebutu presenting his development roadmap at a rally held at Ake Palace in Abeokuta. The former federal legislator introduced an agenda branded 'ITURA DE,' framing his platform as a call for systemic change across the state's governance structure.
Adebutu's campaign priorities centre on three main areas: restoring autonomy to local government councils, enhancing the welfare conditions of public sector workers, and stimulating economic activity across Ogun State. His campaign address, titled 'A Call to Liberation,' positioned these interventions as direct responses to poverty and economic stagnation in the state.
Running mate 'Yemi Showunmi-Kolapo accompanied the candidate at the event. The campaign launch drew substantial crowds to the venue early in the morning, with party members and residents arriving from 10am onwards dressed in party colours and carrying campaign materials.
Reports indicate that despite rain, attendance remained robust throughout the event, with traffic congestion reported in areas surrounding the PDP secretariat as supporters converged on Abeokuta. Adebutu used the occasion to appeal to voters to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress, positioning the PDP as an alternative governing force for the state.
The campaign framework presented on Wednesday represents the opening salvo of what is expected to be an extended electoral process leading to the 2027 governorship poll. Party leadership was present at the flag-off ceremony to formally endorse the candidacy.
