Violence Erupts in Osun State Campaign Rally, Injures Residents

On August 15, 2023, violence erupted in Osun State during a campaign rally organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in support of their governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The incident began when hoodlums tore down campaign posters, leading to gunfire that injured at least three people.

Eyewitnesses reported that the violence spread from the Sabo area to the Osogbo metropolis, causing panic among residents. An elderly man was reportedly injured and taken to Osun State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

APC member Lawrence Dada accused military personnel of looting premises and claimed that two staff members were arrested. Governor Ademola Adeleke visited the victims in the hospital and condemned the violence, which he described as a coordinated attack by political thugs.

The APC campaign council responded by blaming the PDP for the violence, asserting that it was an attempt to destabilize the state. The situation has raised concerns about security and political tensions in the region.
