Violence Erupts in Osun State During APC Campaign Walk

On August 15, 2023, violence broke out in Osun State during a campaign walk organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilorin, leading to three individuals being injured. The crisis began when individuals tore down campaign posters of the APC's governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, which triggered clashes involving suspected political thugs.

Eyewitnesses reported that the violence escalated in the Sabo area, where hoodlums attacked APC members and damaged property. Gunshots were fired, causing panic among residents in various areas of Osogbo, including Aisu, Owod, and Aregbesola.

An elderly man was injured and taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital. Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the violence, labeling it a coordinated attack, and visited the victims.

The APC campaign council accused Adeleke of supporting the thugs and called for police intervention. The incident has raised concerns about security and the political climate in Osun State as the elections approach.
