Adeleke Campaign Urges Police for Peaceful Elections

The Imole Campaign Council has called on Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to assure the residents of Osun State of a peaceful, violence-free, and impartial governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. In a statement released on Monday by spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council urged the police leadership to maintain neutrality in the conduct of security personnel before, during, and after the election.

The council requested that the IGP publicly assure the people of Osun State that officers assigned for election duties would act professionally and fairly. They expressed concerns regarding the reinstatement of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, citing previous actions that raised doubts about the police command's neutrality.

The council emphasized the need for security agencies to avoid becoming tools of intimidation against political groups and called for an end to the use of arrests and detention to harass political opponents. This appeal comes less than two weeks before the election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission having completed its preparations.
