Osun Police Ensure Peaceful Governorship Election in 2026

The Osun State Police Command has assured political actors and residents that measures are in place for a peaceful and credible governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. This assurance was made by Commissioner of Police for election duties, CP Samuel Etaifo, during a meeting with a delegation of women led by the state’s First Lady, Titilola Adeleke, at the police headquarters in Osogbo.

The women presented a petition addressing alleged voter intimidation and political arrests, including the recent detention of the Commissioner for Environment. Adeleke urged the police to protect voters and political actors from intimidation, claiming that opposition elements were targeting leaders of the Accord party.

Etaifo responded by stating that the police are working to maintain peace and warned against actions that could escalate tensions. He confirmed that his deployment was directed by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to ensure a secure environment for the elections and promised to review the issues raised in the petition.
