Adeleke's Camp Seeks Police Assurance for Peaceful Poll

The Imole Campaign Council, associated with Governor Ademola Adeleke, has formally requested Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to provide assurances to Osun State residents regarding a peaceful, violence-free, and impartial governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. In a statement issued on Monday by spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council emphasized the need for police neutrality in the conduct of security personnel before, during, and after the election.

They called for a public assurance from the IGP that officers assigned to election duties would act professionally and fairly. The council expressed concerns over the reinstatement of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, citing previous actions that raised doubts about the police command's impartiality.

They urged the IGP to prevent security agencies from intimidating political groups and to cease the use of arrests and detentions to harass opponents, asserting that credible elections require impartial security forces. This appeal comes less than two weeks before the election, with the Independent National Electoral Commission having completed its preparations.
