Concerns Raised Over Arrests Ahead of Osun Election

Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, expressed serious concerns regarding the recent arrests of over 80 individuals linked to the Accord Party ahead of the upcoming Osun State election. He reported that these individuals were taken from Osun State to the Federal Capital Territory.

Following a meeting with police officials, the campaign council was unable to obtain detailed information about the arrests. Olajengbesi demanded an explanation from the Nigeria Police Force regarding the reasons for the arrests and the transfer of detainees to Abuja, emphasizing the need for due process.

He also alleged that some detainees had been moved to correctional facilities in Keffi and Kuje. Furthermore, he mentioned the arrest of a senior official in the Osun State Government, though this claim could not be independently verified.

Olajengbesi urged the Inspector-General of Police to ensure neutrality and professionalism from security agencies during the electoral process, advocating for a peaceful and credible election.
