Adeleke Campaign Council Alleges Police Bias in Osun Poll

Pelumi Olagenbesi, the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council for Governor Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Osun State Commissioner of Police is biased and should not oversee security for the upcoming governorship election. During a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, Olagenbesi emphasized the importance of the election as a test of Nigeria's democratic institutions before the 2027 general elections.

He stated that the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector-General of Police would be assessed based on the election's transparency. The campaign council has submitted a petition to the British High Commission, claiming that the police in Osun State are compromised and that the Commissioner is acting on behalf of a political party.

Olagenbesi urged the Inspector-General of Police to replace the current Commissioner with neutral officers and highlighted incidents of violence and police inaction against political thugs. He called for international monitoring to ensure voters can freely choose their candidates.
