Osun Police Accused of Targeting Accord Party Leaders

As the August 15 governorship election in Osun State approaches, the Osun State Police Command has allegedly begun arresting leaders of the ruling Accord Party, raising concerns of electoral manipulation similar to the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State. The Imole Campaign Council, supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke's reelection, claims that at least 86 of its supporters have been detained without charges.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, stated that many detainees were moved to correctional facilities in Keffi and Kuje without being arraigned. The Osun State Government has condemned these actions, describing them as systematic invasions of officials' homes by police without proper warrants.

Commissioner for Information Kolapo Alimi reported raids on the residences of top state officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye. Despite these allegations, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan insists that the police are committed to professionalism and the rule of law.
