Doctors Suspended Over Alleged Negligence in Adichie's Case

Three doctors have been suspended due to alleged negligence in the medical care of 21-month-old Ivara Eseg, son of renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The doctors suspended include Dr.

Tund Majekodunmi, Medical Director of Euracar Multi Specialist Hospital, Dr. Titu Ogundar, an anesthesiologist at Atlantic Pediatric Hospital, and Dr.

Atinuk Uwajeh, Chief Medical Officer at Atlantic Pediatric Hospital. The suspension follows a prima facie finding of misconduct by a medical and dental practitioners' investigative panel.

The incident occurred on January 7, 2026, when the child received care at Atlantic Hospital and underwent diagnostic preparatory procedures at Euracar. Complications arose during the transfer to John Hopkins Hospital in the United States, leading to a legal notice issued on January 10, 2026, by Kemi Pinheiro SAN, representing the child's parents, accusing the medical personnel of breaching their duty of care.
