AEDC Workers Accused of Vandalizing Transformer in Abuja

In February 2026, workers from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) were accused of vandalizing a transformer in a community in Abuja, specifically affecting the residence of Ayuba Batur. Daniel Tyokua Kugbo, a local resident, reported that AEDC officials cut cables from the transformer, claiming repairs were necessary.

However, residents believe this was a pretext for theft, as they have had to raise substantial funds—over N300,000—to purchase new cables due to repeated vandalism. Joi Nwosu, a local trader, confirmed seeing two AEDC workers removing wires around 5 AM.

The community has been without power for two months, causing significant damage to residents' refrigerated goods. Local leaders, including Samuel Arom and Titu Agundu, visited AEDC's zonal office in Garki, where Canic Emeka promised a resolution.

However, attempts to reach AEDC's public relations officer, Omed Odekina, on March 16, 2026, were unsuccessful.
