CAF President Announces AFCON to Be Held Every Four Years Starting 2028

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Patrice Motsepe, revealed that the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will transition to a four-year cycle beginning in 2028, moving away from the current biennial format. Additionally, Motsepe announced the establishment of the African Nations League, set to take place annually starting in 2029.

This restructuring aims to bring excitement and innovation to African football. The AFCON has traditionally been held every two years since 1968, with a one-year gap in 2012-2013.
