Afenifere Raises Alarm Over Banditry in South-West Nigeria

On Tuesday, Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, expressed alarm regarding the recent surge in banditry in South-west Nigeria. In a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, the organization highlighted incidents such as kidnappings along the Igbeti-Igboho Road and in Ondo, Kwara, and Kogi states.

Afenifere also noted threats from bandits to instigate terrorism in Osun State, potentially jeopardizing the forthcoming general elections. The organization emphasized that previous attacks often followed indicators or minor terror acts, referencing communities in Ekiti, Ifelodun, Baruten, Kaiama, Edu local government areas of Kwara state, and others across various states.

Afenifere called on relevant authorities, including security agencies, politicians, and community leaders, to take these threats seriously and work collaboratively to combat banditry and terrorism, acknowledging President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's commitment to addressing these issues.
