Oyo Monarch Supports Afenifere on Farmer Security Issues

Oba Ayobami Ogunmakinde, the Elerepamo of Pamo in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, has expressed support for the concerns raised by the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere regarding the ongoing attacks and kidnappings affecting farmers in the South-West region. Speaking to PUNCH Online in Ibadan, Ogunmakinde emphasized the need for proactive measures to enhance security, particularly in remote communities.

Afenifere, through its National Publicity Secretary Jare Ajayi, highlighted that farmers are abandoning their lands due to fears of kidnapping, falling prices due to middlemen, and grazing by herders. Ogunmakinde noted that recent abductions of schoolchildren have exacerbated fears in the region.

He urged the Federal Government and the Inspector-General of Police to upgrade the existing police post in Pamo to a full-fledged Divisional Police Headquarters, believing that this, along with the establishment of military bases, would significantly reduce incidents of kidnapping and banditry.
