Afenifere Raises Alarm Over Kidnapping Surge in Yorubaland

On Tuesday, Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, raised alarms regarding the rising cases of kidnapping and terror attacks in Yorubaland, particularly in Oyo and Ogun states. Jare Ajayi, the organization's spokesperson, noted that incidents of terror, including kidnappings, occur almost daily across various parts of the country, causing significant concern.

Recent attacks include the abduction of two staff members from an electricity distribution company in Ibadan and the killing of a farmer in Ondo-Ekiti. Afenifere has previously called attention to the escalation of banditry and direct attacks on military and police facilities.

The organization emphasized that youth corps members deserve special protection due to the nature of their service and called for a modification of their deployment to ensure they remain within their home states. Afenifere criticized the failure of security forces to effectively combat these threats and highlighted the complicity of certain individuals within the security services.
