Afenifere Raises Alarm Over Rising Terrorism in Yoruba Land

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing grave concern over the rising incidents of terrorism and kidnappings in Yoruba land, particularly in Oyo and surrounding states. Jare Ajayi, the organization's spokesperson, highlighted alarming occurrences, including the kidnapping of a trader in Ibadan and attacks on staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.

The group lamented the killing of farmers and military personnel, as well as the abduction of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. Afenifere reiterated its call for the federal government to ensure the safety of NYSC members, emphasizing that no Nigerian should face kidnapping or extrajudicial killing.

They criticized the security forces for their inability to combat banditry effectively and called for non-kinetic methods to be adopted. The statement also pointed out that armed groups often operate with impunity, suggesting complicity at various levels within the security services.
