AFN President Confirms Favour Ofili's Money-Motivated Switch to Turkey

Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President, ESPN Okowa, confirmed that Favour Ofili's switch to Turkey was financially motivated. Ofili, holding the world record in the women's 150m, expressed disappointment at being excluded from the woman's 100m event at the Paris 2024 Games.

Okowa emphasized that money was the central issue behind Ofili's decision, adding her name to a list of athletes who have switched nationalities for financial reasons. Notably, athletes like Francis Obikwelu and Gloria Alozie have made similar moves in the past.

The AFN President stressed that the decision was Ofili's personal choice and faulted the athlete for pointing fingers at administrators.
