Tobi Amusan Secures Nigeria's First Gold in Ghana

Tobi Amusan, the world record holder, won Nigeria's first gold medal at the African Athletics Championship held in Ghana by triumphing in the women's 100m hurdles final on Wednesday. Her compatriot, Adaobi Tabugbo, finished third in the same event, marking her first individual medal for Nigeria.

Despite challenges such as a dysfunctional timing system and incomplete results, Amusan showcased her dominance by achieving the fastest times in both the heats and semi-finals. This victory brought Nigeria's total medal count to four ahead of the finals in the men's and women's 100m events later that day.

On Tuesday, Nigeria commenced its campaign at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championship, with Oladipo Obiageri Amaechi winning silver and bronze in the women's discus event, marking her first international appearance for Nigeria after switching from Great Britain.
