Azubike Emodi, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Afriland Properties Plc, reaffirmed the company's commitment to collaborating with governments, investors, and industry stakeholders to promote sustainable urban development and improve access to quality housing. Speaking at the 20th Africa International Housing Show (AIHS), Emodi addressed the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the affordable housing ecosystem.

He argued that sustainable housing delivery requires coordinated action from governments, financiers, developers, and policymakers. Emodi stated that the affordable housing conversation should evolve to focus on creating an enabling ecosystem for commercial viability rather than placing expectations solely on developers.

He highlighted the importance of addressing the housing challenge holistically, emphasizing three key areas: cheaper builds, policy reform, and financing options. Emodi also noted that homes should align with the purchasing power and aspirations of their intended beneficiaries, while acknowledging the constraints posed by rising construction costs, high financing costs, infrastructure deficits, and regulatory bottlenecks.
