Ogun State Launches Special Waste Evacuation Operation

Following a report published by DAILY POST on February 26, highlighting the alarming state of waste management in Ogun State, the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has commenced a special operation to evacuate the backlog of waste across the state. The newly appointed Managing Director, Farouk Akintund, announced that this operation became necessary due to the accumulation of waste that had not been properly addressed.

Night operations, which had been halted for several months, will resume immediately to tackle the waste crisis and restore cleanliness. The operation will cover various local government areas, particularly major towns such as Abeokuta, Sango Ota, Ijebu Ode, and Ifo.

Akintund emphasized the importance of residents properly containerizing waste in front of their homes instead of dumping it indiscriminately on roadsides. He also warned that anyone found dumping waste on road medians would face prosecution.
