Ogun State Fines 108 Residents for Illegal Waste Dumping

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has fined 108 residents for illegal waste dumping in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of an initiative to enforce environmental sanitation laws. The enforcement team apprehended offenders across different parts of the city, targeting illegal dumping in public places such as roadsides and median areas.

Governor Ogwama Farook Akintund commented on the situation, stating that the fines serve as a deterrent against indiscriminate waste disposal. He expressed disappointment over the ongoing illegal dumping practices and urged residents to utilize the services of assigned Private Sector Participants (PSPs) for proper waste disposal.

Akintund emphasized that the state government will continue its enforcement efforts until compliance improves among residents, particularly highlighting the environmental and public health risks associated with improper waste disposal, especially during the rainy season. He warned that the government would not relent in maintaining cleanliness and urged residents to adhere to waste disposal guidelines to avoid prosecution.
