Moro Bailey Bridge Collapse Strands Commuters in Kwara

The Moro Bailey Bridge along the Okolowo-Alapa road in Ilorin, Kwara State, collapsed early on Thursday, reportedly due to the weight of a heavy-duty truck. This incident has stranded commuters and disrupted movement along the route, raising concerns among residents who rely on the heavily trafficked bridge for daily transportation and economic activities.

The bridge was originally constructed by the Nigerian Army during the civil war and is long overdue for a total overhaul. The Kwara State Ministry of Works has called for patience from road users while they work with federal authorities to divert traffic to alternative routes.

Additionally, the ministry has begun palliative work to ease vehicular traffic in the area. A new Moro Bridge is already under construction a few meters away, with the project reportedly 40% complete.

Viral videos of the collapsed structure have circulated online, showing the truck overturned at the site.
